The U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has designated Iranian digital asset exchange BitBank, its software developer Pishtaz Simorgh Electronic Trade Company and three associates of sanctioned financier Babak Zanjani under Operation Economic Outcast. Treasury says Zanjani used BitBank between June and July 2026 to transfer hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of Bitcoin to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while the exchange also processed payments received by the sanctioned Hormuz Safe Marine Services Authority for the Iranian regime. The action expands Treasury’s use of Iran sanctions authorities against digital asset infrastructure and blocks U.S.-linked property and transactions involving the designated parties.
