The 2024 CBSA report, released through Omidi’s Immigration and Refugee Board proceedings, alleges that his senior role in Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade materially supported a mining sector closely linked to the IRGC and the Iranian government’s ability to fund groups including Hezbollah and Hamas. Omidi has acknowledged serving as a deputy director general but has characterized his role as largely technical, while his lawyer did not respond to Global News for comment. The CBSA is seeking to deport him as a former senior Iranian regime official; his hearing has concluded and the IRB is expected to issue its decision this fall.
